Joe  Nichols dug back into his roots to create an CD’s worth of tunes that reminded him of the great hard core country music he and his dad would listen to during his youth.  Nichols has long admired artists like Gene Watson, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson, and knew with his third release, for Universal South aptly titled III, that was the direction he wanted to take with his new CD. 

“I think that country music fans have a real affinity for that kind of country music,” Nichols said.  “My goal for this new CD was to remain true to the essence, the feel and the message of the music of those times, and give them a more up to date spin. I feel like I have been able to do that.  Some themes are timeless and universal—relatable no matter if it’s 1955 or 2005, and those are the kinds of songs I tend to gravitate to.  Plus with this CD, I just wanted to have some fun—and I think you get the hint with this first single!”
